cable technician duties


Maintain cable systems by installing, repairing, programming and updating the cable infrastructure.


Perform major and minor repairs and troubleshoot the cable system.

Identify, locate and dispose of the abandoned cable.

Test all cables installed or reconnected according to established procedures.

Keep cables tightly tied and bent while maintaining a safe level.

Develop a thorough knowledge of national building codes and standards.

Record time and materials used in daily work.

Return all equipment and consumables in separate locations on completion.

Complete the required documentation, including installation checklist, schedules, service orders, vehicle inspection report and several other records.

Understand, adhere to and promote environmental, health and safety policies.

Assist colleagues in the installation and maintenance of structured cabling systems.

Guide pole climbing and work at height and small confined spaces.

Work outdoors and in bad weather.

Work on call 24 hours a day for emergency repairs.

Train vehicles, hand tools, power tools, ladders, leak detectors and test equipment.
