The job of an information security consultant is to protect their clients from their network and data breaches. There are many roles in the field of information security, often referred to as Internet security. Some of them usually have a wide range of responsibilities. Others are highly specialized, focusing on a specific area of cybersecurity. Internet security consultants are usually general, but may specialize in one or more areas.
At
George Washington University, a security consultant can specialize in a number
of tasks, as listed below. Most security consultants will change some of these
roles throughout their careers. It is not uncommon for a security consultant to
play multiple roles at once (including the multitude of roles listed in the
professional center).
